Introduction: The earth has a natural electromagnetic frequency of approximately 7.83 Hz. Interestingly, the alpha and theta waves of the human brain have the same frequency. This is why being in nature feels good. The power of nature has ways to bring stillness to our mind. Amid flowing streams and chirping birds, nature helps us discover the deepest parts of ourselves. Nature’s majesty turns the focus of our mind away from the demands of daily endeavors to our role in the tapestry of the natural world. In the sanctuary of nature, we nurture and heal our inner selves. In its midst we ponder and discover what it means to be alive. Bathing in the energy of the forest, alongside nature’s elements and wildlife, our minds are stimulated to think about the origin of everything.

We start to wonder about our place in it. We ask ourselves questions like, Why are we here? Who are we? From where do we come? Where are we going? We seek answers to these questions from the explanations of science and the spirituality of our faiths.

Unfortunately, answers to these questions entangle our minds into conflicts between science and spirituality. Science and the spirituality of religions went their separate ways during the medieval period. Science confined itself to the mechanics of the physical world (matter), whereas religions confined themselves to the unseen forces of the universe (spirit). The above-mentioned questions entrap our mind in the conflicting beliefs and conclusions of these two streams of thought. From these varying perspectives, we struggle to sort out the structure of our own set of beliefs.

It is our good fortune that we live in a period where the science of natural forces has evolved to recognize the fact that it is the same formless energy (spirit), that transforms itself into many different forms of physical matter.

A diagram titled Sketch of Oneness compares scientific and spiritual perspectives, showing cosmic, quantum, and life cycles.

In this new era, there is a newfound synergy in the rational knowledge of modern science with the wisdom of ancient spirituality. The present era’s synergy in science and spirituality gives direction to our reflections, wherein we realize that we are part and parcel of this naturally occurring evolutionary phenomenon of the same energy. Scientists call the evolutionary nature of this creative energy the ‘Force of Nature’, whereas the spiritualists call it the Holy Spirit.

On one hand there is modern science’s theory of the Big Bang which says the expansion of the universe started 13.8 billion years ago from a single source of energy. On the other hand, is the spiritual wisdom of our faiths that says, there exists ‘One Omnipresent Source of Creation’. Either way, in nature, we find ourselves inspired to connect and become ‘One’ with this single source of creation. Above all, we crave to sustain this connection of ‘Oneness’ to live a life in which our own spirit is immersed in the spirit that created us.

The purpose of this blog is to explore the newfound synergy in science and spirituality that can lead us to the goal of a sustained connection in which our conscience ‘Becomes One with Nature’. This blog seeks to explore answers to questions like, why do we seek a connection with nature? What is Oneness? What is science and spirituality’s perspective of ‘Oneness’?

In the natural environment, we realize that nature’s energy is operating not on our mechanized time clock but in its own self-regulated operating cycle. The interacting forces of nature’s energy oscillate in predictable cyclical patterns. In this naturally occurring cyclical phenomena, resources like water are recycled to maintain conditions necessary for the existence of life. In a cyclical process of evaporation, water recycles from rain and snow to creeks, lakes, rivers, oceans, and back to rain and snow. These cyclical processes bring seasonal changes to the environment as well. All forms of life on planet earth biologically follow the cyclical patterns of nature. Plants wait for the season of spring to spur their growth. Animals synchronize their lifestyle with changes of seasons.

Becoming One with nature implies that our actions are aligned with the attributes or characteristics of nature’s energy. Any particular action that happens naturally is considered an action of natural disposition. Our energy is composed of nature’s elements. Thus, the characteristics of nature’s energy shape our natural dispositions. Neuroscientists have provided brain scans evidencing that actions of ‘Altruistic’ behavior activate the pleasure centers of the brain. Altruism is a natural motivation to help others in need, without any expectation of favor. Spiritual wisdom of ‘Altruistic’ behavior has existed since the dawn of civilization. Thus, the natural disposition of ‘Altruistic’ behavior has become the newfound common theme of synergy between the psychologists and spiritualists. However, it is the mechanics of our conscientious mind that sustains the strength of nature’s gifted instincts.

Conscious and conscience are similar sounding words but have very diƯerent meanings. The buildup of conscience is a progressive process of the mind because its development depends upon the memories of past experiences, current thinking and constantly changing outside influences. Cell biologists have discovered that our cell structure is not only capable of networking with other cells in our body but can sense signals from the outer environment as well. This article explains the crucial role our mind’s conscience plays in aligning our convictions with nature’s energy. In spiritual terms, this conscientious connection is like a soul’s connection with its creator. Tuning our mind’s conscience to nature’s energy is comparable to the tuning of a radio station’s signal frequency to the frequency of a transmission tower. This process of frequency tuning is like nurturing our conscience by immersing ourselves in nature’s energy.

We can nurture our mind’s conscience to align our actions with nature’s gifted instincts. For ages, spiritualists have used the technique of meditation to nurture their conscience. Neuroscientists have evidence of brain scans that prove their eƯectiveness. Mindful meditation is now considered the most eƯective drug free treatment for many mental health related issues. Whether it is depression, PTSD, addiction, or a nervous breakdown, guided meditation helps enhance focus of mind and gives direction to its thought process. This article highlights the synergy in science and spirituality for the use of this technique to sustain an ‘Altruistic’ conscience of natural disposition. With an analogy of a running faucet of freshwater replacing muddy water in a bowl under it, this article explains how the thoughts of a distressed mind can be replaced with thoughts that nurture a conscience of natural harmony.

Life is a gift of nature’s energy. Developing a conscientious lifestyle that propels actions of nature’s gifted disposition is how we express our gratitude for the gift of life. Conscience of acceptance and surrender to nature’s gifted instincts is the key to living a life immersed in the spirit of its energy. A constant barrage of influence of daily endeavors suppresses the subtle nature of gifted instincts. A lifestyle that nourishes and sustains a conscience of natural disposition is crucial to maintaining actions that are consistent with nature’s gifted instincts. A mindset that thrives in gratitude for nature’s gift for life, a lifestyle emerges, that undertakes daily endeavors in spirit of collective conscience. In a collective ‘Altruistic’ conscience, a longing for an honest living grows and desire of compassionate sharing develops. It is this conscientious ‘Oneness’ lies the pleasure of inner peace and content. However, the challenge is in sustaining the collective conscience in midst of thoughts and influences of daily interactions. This is where the subtle calling of contemplative music in the background becomes an eƯective tool to sustain conscience of natural harmony.

To keep the mind’s flow of thoughts immersed in gratitude for nature’s gift of life, spiritualists for ages used music as a tool that sustains a conscience of natural harmony. Science on the other hand, from its perspective, has figured out that the resonance of Alpha and Theta brainwaves that represent deeply relaxed, meditative, dreamy and creative states of mind, are within the range of the earth’s fundamental frequency of 7.83 Hz. Listening to contemplative mindful music that is in harmony with the frequencies emanating from nature, inspires our daily actions to seek alignment with nature’s gifted instincts of collective conscience. One of the intentions of this blog is to curate a library of music that guides the conscience and inspires a lifestyle of natural harmony.
